Museums and the Web 2008

It's great to see the number of new members on this site! I've set up a group called Enaging with Social Media in Musuems. You can link to it from the Groups section of this site. Also, I'm blogging about the conference at http://nlablog.wordpress.com. It would be great to hear your impressions of the conference!

Intercom Conference 2008

ICOM's Management Committee have recently launched the Intercom Conference 2008, to be held in Rotorua, New Zealand. http://www.intercom2008.co.nz/index.html This year's theme is 'Museums, tourism and the visitor experience'. While the conference papers don't seem to be refereed, it does look like an interesting conference.

Thank you, Angelina, for the warm welcome. The site has already been helpful. It's hard to keep track of all of the applications; it seems easier not to have to do it myself and actually get some use out of all this social networking stuff myself!

Ah, sadly Angelina I won;t be at the workshop (got to be an usher at a friend's weding!) - but there should be up to four colleagues from the Imperial War Museum taking part. Hope to get to meet you anotehr time.

Thank you Angelina. I look forward to participating in the discussion about social media and museums as this is becoming of great interest to me in my research.

Hi Angelina

Thanks for sending me the invite to this site, and your phone message - we must coincide in real time soon!

I find it difficult to keep students engaged on our internal subject discussion forums, let alone suggesting another one to them! So much information, so little time...

hi, Angelina

Thanks for the welcome. And, no, of course I'd not mind your doing a post on "My Life is my Museum", though please be aware that at the present time it is still no more than a fragmentary 'proof-of-concept' and intended as nothing else. You'll find it useful to read the 'About' page:

http://hutchison.homelinux.net/mlimm/index.php/My_Life_Is_My_Museum:About

before writing your post. My wife June has been applying the principles in a small way in the design of the 'London, Sugar & Slavery' exhibition at the Museum in Docklands, London, where she also organised a one-day conference looking at just such issues. Flattered, of course, at your interest :)

Hi Angelina,

Thank you for your welcome to the group. I will post more about how the MIA is using social media on my own comment page.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi Angelina
Thanks for the welcome. We are doing a few things in the social media space at the moment. Most are really quite experimental at this stage, and we are busily learning a lot. I'm looking forward to using this space.

Hello Angelina,
Sorry for my late reply. Yes I enjoy this site. I love the concept of social networking and the way it helps connecting people who share similar interests. I aim to participate more in this site although English is not my first language. Looking forward to having your workshop in the future. I enjoyed listening to your speaking in MW2008! Best, Alison
