Museum 3.0

what will the museum of the future be like?

Podcasts and vodcasts

Hi all. Lynda and I are looking at where podcasting is at ... interested to hear about your experiences - both good and not so good - in terms of type of podcasts/vodcasts you've been involved with, systems and hardware used, special features (eg interactive or creative play components), access and listing options and take-up rate. Any leads welcome.

Hi Vanessa - here;'s some non-museum sites that I have found interesting:
* Meg Poore's podules - good for finding out how to do it all with heaps of useful tips
* Podcasts: research into school leadership - Kristine Needham's site. I like the way she provides an image and background info and pairs academics with practitioners
* Facebook's podcast tracker app - I haved added it to my profile (I think), maybe this is something we could play with on our Dinosaurs/Surviving Australia Fan Pages?
Odeo - Russ got me onto this, i think you can use this site to make podcasts as well as find them

Vanessa - next week when I'm away can you look into how to put a podcast/soundfile onto a Facebook fan please? You may need to join the Dinosuars fan page to experiment (have attched a sound file you could play with). I'll need to upload some sound files quickly onto a Fan page on 25th July.

Someone else on here may also have some clues too - can anyone help plz??

Hi Lynda - Facebook's video application on the Dinosaurs fanpage does not support mp3 files ( and will only take files under 2 minutes in any case) so I have experimented on my own fb page. Two third-party applications are options.

There is a new audio application called Profile Music Player which uploads an mp3 file quite quickly (less than a minute), allows you to label it, will take up to 10 sound files of up to 10mb each but max capacity is 50mb, has volume control and shows time-elapsed, allows anyone to listen without having to upload the application, has excellent sound quality and good user reviews...but a blurry window box until clicked.

The other option is to use the Extended Info application which allows audio files (only in mp3 format) using a mp3 tag and the URL of the mp3. Inserting the soundfile is virtually instantaneous and there are fields for title, author etc. which appear on the fb page next to the start button for the soundfile. There doesn't appear to be a restriction on size or number of tracks. I don't think the sound is as good as the profile app and there is neither vol control or indication of length of soundtrack but the appearance on the fb profile is very neat.

Extended info app is probably the way to go. See you Monday.

Great, thanks so much for this and see u tomorrow. On the whole I think sound files leave somewhat to be desired actually. Anyway, if you're free this Thursday nite too we're doing some social media experimenting for the AMEP project as per separate blog posts on ning and the FB fan page.

Trying to add the sound file here now - since I can't remember how I did it before I'll just wing it!!

I added a sound files application to this ning site too (on the LH side) so feel free to upload any sound files here, we'll see how it goes
