The speakers and audience: museum professionals and… Continue

Chris Anderson's new book, Free- the Future of a Radical Price makes the case that the price of all information and idea related content is dropping to zero. There is a good review of the book by Malcom Gladwell in the New Yorker- http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2009/07/06/090706crbo_books_gladwell. I couldn't help but think about some of the discussion that has occurred making a case that admission to museums should be free. Museum content after all is simply information organized i… Continue

As the economy is dashed upon the rocks, museums around the world are being forced to cut spending. Among the losses, Freep.com reports that the Detroit Institute of Arts has canceled it's blockbuster exhibit, "Baroque 1620-1800: Style in the Age of Magnificence," scheduled to arrive this fall. At times like this it is inspiring to hear how other museum educators are responding to challenges and change.
Of particular interest to me is the notion of a museum site visits/museum experience becoming a central, possibly mandatory, part of a national history curriculum… Continue
I've just posted a long and slightly rambling (as usual) reflection on the activities of the past few weeks both virtual and physical.
I talk about a few things I've been at recently - Museum Australia's Museum Futures, a State Library reference librarians conference - and some things I've been reading.
