Hi Tim I understand the need to work through copyright, especially in regard to mash-ups - API's etc. However, I'm a little at a loss to see how this would affect a decision to make a My Folder option on your current site, so that the user can colle…

Hello Paul, Thankyou for responding - you raise good points and yes we have been discussing user experience and personalisation - we are still working on our overall copyright / sharing position and really until we resolve where we are with that an…

Congratulations - looks great - and obviously reflects a mile of thinking and woirk. One big point for me is the question of sharing and personlisation - i.e. why can't I send an item out onto a Fecebook group - Twitter it - or even better take it i…

Museum Victoria has launched its collections online system after an eighteen month project. It is the best example of the new level of internal cooperation engendered by MV's approach to "online" development as a shared and core activity. http://mu…

Hi Jonathan In fact we don't always use the term virtual tour on our website either. We call the exhibition versions (Dinosaurs, Melbourne Story, Pompeii) virtual exhibitions. We had the same thought as you - that they're not tours but spaces for w…

Can you please provide a link to more information about Percipio? I have not heard of it before and the closest I got on a web search was something about "Experimenting with Sound Immersion in an Arts and Crafts Museum"

Sorry if I seemed to be praying for my chapel, but it is precisely what Percipio is able to do (and in fact much more). Percipio represent a revolution and not only in technologies or functionalities but in term of approach, of mentality. It is a n…

Profile Information

About Me:
I have worked in Museum's for the past 21 years, in collection management, policy development, project management, information technology and senior management. I studied Architecture and Archaeology at Sydney University, graduating in 1987. In 1997 I was appointed National Project Manager of Australian Museums On Line (AMOL now CAN) a position which I really enjoyed.
In 1999 I became the first Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Powerhouse Museum, establishing a new division and executive role. In 2001 I was appointed Director of Information, Multimedia and Technology at Museum Victoria, once again establishing a new division and executive role.

I was involved in the establishment of the Australian Registrars Committee (ARC) in the early nineties and have been an active member of Museums Australia for 15 years. In 2001 I was elected to the Museums Australia National Council for the first time and am currently Treasurer; I am also a member of the Victorian State Branch Committee. In 2003 I became a committee member of the Australian Interactive Multimedia Industry Association (AIMIA) I have since left the AIMIA committee.

I have been actively involved in developing large scale new media projects over the past ten years at the Powerhouse Museum and Museum Victoria. The use and development of the Web has emerged during my career and I have been active since the mid 1990’s with museum website development and increasingly social media and the wonderful engagement and networking opportunities it makes possible for museums.

I am committed to working towards increasing the integration of digital media in museums both physically and virtually. The opportunities available to us today are limited only by our imagination; we are all living through a period of major change which is challenging and exciting.

Hey Tim

I see you joined the group! There is information there on the workshop I ran in London in July. It might be useful for the VCN group!
