Ecomuseums and Green Museums
As we all know, our environment is in danger. Each day, we contribute to the decline of the system and yet not everyone seems to be taking matters seriously. My focus is that both academic institutions and museums can be leaders in the effort to bring awareness to the public about the situation through both exhibits, education, planning, buildings, and by example.
My research for the past few years has been on public interest anthropology, and visual anthropology. I am now re-focusing my research on museums and how to make them "greener," become less of a burden on the environment, and community leaders through education and example.
Please email me or post comments or questions to my page here on museum30.ning.com that relate to the emerging green industry. I am simultaneously compiling three sections of research currently.
1) A list of all businesses and industries that manufacture or sell equipment or goods that are environmentally friendly, or 'green' specifically marketed for museums or the construction of museums and exhibits.
2) A list of all government agencies, NGO's and non-profit groups, sources of funding (both private and public), local community green initiatives (such as alternative commuter programs and local farm co-ops), museums, and other institutions with an active dialogue with the "green" community.
3) I am researching how ecomusems ("Écomusées" or "Musées au verte") in France and surrounding countries have approached the green revolution, and how they are both practicing and educating the public in environmental history as well as participatory actions that the public can do to help the environment.
