If there is any project that you find might be good for your research in this subject, I would be really interested in putting it on through the museum I'm interning at in order for it to be part of my thesis. Let me know in general if there is an...

Profile Information

About Me:
I am the Head of Audience Research at the Australian Museum, Sydney. I have published widely in museum evaluation and write the Audience Research in museums blog with a readership of around 500 per month. I am particularly interested in visitor experiences and learning and how these can be measured, young children’s learning, Indigenous evaluation, as well as the strategic uses of audience research and new technologies in organisational change. I am happily obsessed with all things Web 2.0 and curious to see how this will change the world that museums operate within and the ways people learn. In 2007 I completed my PhD in museum learning, and now that’s finished I am looking forward to the adventures the new web world will bring.

For the next 12 months (to September 2009) I will also be resonsible for the overall management of the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes (AMEP) and the Museum's Web Unit, working with two wonderful managers to deliver on AMEP's 20th anniversary and the website rebuild.

Some personal philosophies:
* spelling is the number one skill we will need in this new and confusing world
* life is too short to drink bad wine
* asparagus is evil
* just do it ... and apologise later.

I administer this Museum 3.0 site – so please feel free to send me any comments and feedback. I'm still new to this so there may be some clunky bits!

Musings from Museums Australia 2009: Works in Progress

In the spirit of my previous post, Do we need to have conferences anymore, thought I'd at least start the ball rolling with observations from the Museums Australia Annual Conference. Well, I don't actually have any at the moment coz I'm only here from today, but we do have a Twitter backchannel happening.

My challen… Continue

culture – access – innovation: Museums Aotearoa Tairawhiti Conference

Attending this conference from today through Friday. Have blogged my first piece from the Visitor Research workshop here, with another to come.

We are running a Twitter feed - hash tag #manz09 - but since there's little internet access that I could find this will be very limited!

Sorry, but this is a dumb question - getting an RSS feed from this site

Can someone help me explain this process to new members please? As I'm an administrator I see the page differently to other users.

It would be really useful for one of you more 'techy' types to explain to us how this is done ? I know that if you reply to a discussion or blog you automatically get updates, maybe that's all you need to do?

Any assistance gratefully received.

Learning from our Twitter xperiment

If you've been following my other post called Project AMEP you'll know that we are trying out some Web 2.0 tools for one of our large projects here. The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes (AMEP) are Australia's premier science awards, culminating in a gala dinner for over 900 assorted VIPS and science-types. We wanted to do live updates of winners and other assorted tidbits from the dinner and decided to use a Tw… Continue

Project AMEP

Today we begin an adventure. I'm taking on board Mal's idea of "touring the web", building on Nina's work about how much time does Web 2.0 take and my own reflections in my paper Museum 3.0, organisational change and infContinue

The Ning spammers are back. Might be a good time to require admin approval for all new members?

I was thinking of posting to see if anyone's up for a museum pecha kucha or general museum 3.0 meet-up in Melbourne in July - are there many members from Melbourne?

Hi Lynda,

I was just wondering if I could ask your advice about the best ways to publicise our twitter hashtag for the Communicating the Museum conference. I know you used a hashtag for the Transformations in Cultural and Scientific Communication Conference. Do you have any good tips for getting as many people as possible involved?

Thanks for your help!

I was, but was using an old email and long-forgotten password, and it was quicker to re-register. I kept forgetting to drop by and see the latest discussions, and now I have, I'm pleased to see it's thriving.

Thanks Lynda!

I'm a big facebook user actually... but in this instance it's good to separate professional networking from the purely social sites!

Thanks again for your help yesterday.

Best wishes, Amanda
