Profile

About Me:
I am the Head of Audience Research at the Australian Museum, Sydney. I have published widely in museum evaluation and write the Audience Research in museums blog with a readership of around 500 per month. I am particularly interested in visitor experiences and learning and how these can be measured, young children’s learning, Indigenous evaluation, as well as the strategic uses of audience research and new technologies in organisational change. I am happily obsessed with all things Web 2.0 and curious to see how this will change the world that museums operate within and the ways people learn. In 2007 I completed my PhD in museum learning, and now that’s finished I am looking forward to the adventures the new web world will bring. Some personal philosophies:
* spelling is the number one skill we will need in this new and confusing world
* life is too short to drink bad wine
* asparagus is evil
* just do it ... and apologise later.

I administer this Museum 3.0 site – so pleasew feel free to send me any comments and feedback. I'm still new to this so there may be some clunky bits!

Learning from our Twitter xperiment

If you've been following my other post called Project AMEP you'll know that we are trying out some Web 2.0 tools for one of our large projects here. The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes (AMEP) are Australia's premier science awards, culminating in a gala dinner for over 900 assorted VIPS and science-types. We wanted to do live updates of winners and other assorted tidbits from the dinner and decided to use a Tw… Continue

Project AMEP

Today we begin an adventure. I'm taking on board Mal's idea of "touring the web", building on Nina's work about how much time does Web 2.0 take and my own reflections in my paper Museum 3.0, organisational change and inf Continue

Official launch of the Top 100 Australian Web 2.0 Applications list

Here's the list of Australia's top web apps compiled by Ross Dawson - note that our own Seb and Powerhouse makes the list! While it makes interesting reading, a long list of apps without any context or grouping is pretty unhelpful in my view. I tried to go on his blog to add this but couldn't work out how.

Museums and Web 2008 Conference

Several of us ning'rs are at this conference. I'm blogging my impressions on the Audience Research blog and Seb will be blogging on fresh+new(er). Going well so far!

How many social networking sites do you need to be part of??

Been thinking lots about this quite a bit lately as I drown, pleasantly, in my online world. There's a group on Facebook called, appropriately, Museums on Facebook which, at last look, has 241 members. They are now having a discussion about the value of Facebook for museums (which staff at the Australian Museum also had a few weeks ago at our Facebook Friday event). Here's the post I added if anyone's interested: STARTS I think to d… Continue

Hi Lynda

Its great to have a networking site specifically for museums. Fantastic hub to have! Strategic Audience Development Study going very well. Lots of good media for Year 1 - we're now getting stuck into Year 2 - working with metro Sydney organisations.

Thank Lynda for your lovely welcome to the site- it's a wonderful and very addictive space- I'll have to have a good play around in the "wee small hours"- good to see so many people on board!

HI Lynda, thanks for your comment. I'm trying to keep in touch with museum developments, and found your site through looking at ning as a way to develop a network for our student group at my university. museum 3.0 seems like a great clearinghouse for information!! thank you!!

Hi Lynda, thanks for saying hello. Liz & Mal keep mentioning this group. I'll have a look at what's been going on and see how I can contribute.

Hi Lynda, I came across this via Linkedin - via Sarah Kenderdine & Tim Hart - so I'm very keen to follow what's happening in the museum space (I've doe a fair bit of stereoscopic/immersive imaging for museums & am currently developing content using game platforms...)

Hi Sam, sounds like a great job. I have heard of the web quests project I think - is that part of that big online learning project that Carolyn Royston is working on?? I'd love to know more about it, if you feel so inclined be cool to write a post about it on the e-learning group as I think others would be interested too.

And of course say hi to Gina from me too!

Hi Lynda,
I am working here as the E-learning person in the Learning department, and as the person looking after the Education pages of the website in the Interactive media department, so I have two jobs, kind of.

I'm responsible for overseeing the Natural History Museum's part in the Webquests project (not sure if you know about that) and one of my bosses is Gina Koutsika, who says hi by the way.

Hi Lynda

Really like this Ning thing. Have set up others with some friends interstate and OS. I have left MA (Vic) and don't seem to be able to change my email address on museum30. from esanders@mavic.asn.au (old work one) to my personal one ericagunter@yahoo.com.au, as it is saying that my personal one is already registered? Are you able to assist and if so can you please relpy to the personal email above rather than directly via museum 03. so it does not go to my old work address.

Thanks.

Erica.
