Luke, I hadn't heard of Foursquare out here in Eugene, Oregon so I took a look since I'm enthusiastic about iPhone applications. I think art and history enthusiasts would love to share their "don't miss this" recommendations when they visit a muse...
Apples and oranges.
Depends what is being sold. Size of marketing budget. Brand recognition.
There's some papers on Archimuse.com on ecommerce and museums.
Does anyone know estimates for bookstore sales and or online book store sales? Number of people and estimates of sales.
If anyone has that info or could point me in that direction, it would be extremely helpful!
Thank you,
Luke
I was at the Museum of Science in Boston today and it was packed for a Tuesday and St. and it was even St. Patricks day!
So are museums a recession proof business. Does anyone have any stats on the revenue and TAM of the market for 2008 or 2007 i...
Founder & CEO Catchr Technologies. 2 year funded R&D project focused on technology empowering culture. We have now formed a company called Catchr Technologies and are launching our first product in a museum near you called, ArtCatchr (Patent Pending)... Its mission is to create a central location for distributed networks (Museums and cultural venues) while organizing and aggregating the disparate information on specific products. We aim to bridge the physical and virtual worlds together through mobile hand-held devices and the web. Our goal is to engage people in the physical space and continue to engage people educationally socially, and commercially. I am humble and hard working and do this because it is my passion.
Hey Luke, finally getting some time in the next couple of weeks where I'd like to call or email you and talk about what you are doing- sorry it took so long to get back to you. Spring got very crazy, very fast! I'll be in touch though!

I apologize if it takes me awhile to respond to anything "meaty" you might send. Gotta crank this app out and read a 50 page evaluation of a recent exhibit/program by the end of day! (Which means I really need to get off this site!)
We are certainly in the process of playing "catch up!" I'm actually in the process of writing a festival application for a project that will use Ning to create an education/social networking platform for a local university's Museum Studies program. The festival is called Spirit & Place and the crux of my idea is to engage students in a project that will explore the intersection between physical and virtual places of inspiration. I have ZERO budget this year (we're in renovations ...), but please do let me know about ArtCatchr. If this idea takes off and is successful, I'd like grow it even more after the festival.
