I am a forester retired from govt service in 1994 after 32 years now working as a part time consultant. I have long been interested in creating an "outdoor Museum" in a forest where school groups and the public can visit and learn about all aspects of the forest by seeing and doing.
Un 1989 I visited the US and Canada for 7 weeks on a scholarship to visit National Parks and Forest Services interpretation facilities within forests . In 1991 a start was made on establishing a 684ha so called "Discovery Forest" in the jarrah forest west of Bunbury. There are now several information programs on offer to schools which are well patronised. Information days are held for owners of private native forest to give them and understanding of different forest management practices.
