I wonder about how the museum spatial is connected with the city. How the museum works as a community spot, and how that then asks the museum to address the street and it's neighbors. I think for two long museums have been sort of plopped into par...

I think that main purpose of festivals is not so much pedagogical as it is audience building. They are there more to celebrate the community, and put the museum at the center of that community by building off of the social function of the modern m...

I think this sounds very cutting edge. I think that yes, cell phone tours will probably be here awhile. But there are some that are still grumbling about it (by some I mean patrons, who feel it cheapens the experience to have people walking around...

Hi Christopher -- great links to interesting shows above. Thanks. Are you interested in virtual museums/online exhibitions? I'm in production (hell) on a content-sharing network for collectors -- we haven't launched but I'd be really interested in getting your feedback so please drop by and check it out. Curiosity Cabinet

I also meant to add that I enjoyed the article you posted a link to and I also posted it to my blog .

Since you're interested in design issues and collaborative networks why not consider starting a group on here that discusses design issues in museums? I think there'd be quite a bit of interest in that from this group.

Cheers!

More impressive exhibition work from Pentagram. This time an exhibit within the of the Music Experience Project in Seattle on robots. So cool. [Here.]

Nice shots of the new Harley Davidson museum, designed by Abbot Miller, from the Pentagram Blog. [Here.]

From the Adobe website, a fantastic article on anthropological research methods in design development. [Here.]

Last year, I completed my certificate in Exhibition Design and Planning (still an unrealized goal, professionally unfortunately). The project that my group worked on was a redesign of an exhibit on the internment of the Japanese during WWII. I am always amazed at the stories of the survivors of the internment, including such amazing creative output. From We Make Money Not Art, a story of the Roger Shimomura and his ukiyo-e-style prints. [Here.]

The Bank of Common Knowledge project featured at We Make Money Not Art. This is an excellent example of distributed, collaborative thinking in the public realm. [Here.]

The mobile phone as curated museum piece. From a French ethnographic study of teenagers. [Here.]

The Bank of Common Knowledge

The always great We Make Money Not Art just introduced me to the the Bank of Common Knowledge. A fantastic project in distributed thinking and collaborative public participation. From WMMNA's write-up:

Inspired by an Internet shaped by the collective effort of thousands of distributed agents who publicly shared their knowledge to achieve a common goal, the BCK project is based on the firm belief that creating, sharing, transmitting and exchanging knowledge in the public sphere is a key elemeContinue
