Hello everyone! I want to make you all aware of a project that I've created with IUPUI professor Jenny Mikulay:
Wikipedia Saves Public Art!

The students just finished yesterday making WP articles about 40 public artworks on the campus of IUPUI (well, 37 -- we have some late comers).

Have a look at one of the articles that yesterday made the WP Main Page, DYK section.

The Navigation Template at the bottom serves as a guide for finding the rest of the collection.

The hardest part of the project for the students? Getting images into the Commons and getting them to stay there without being deleted.

Post GLAM-Wiki conference, a really helpful and positive relationship has been established between the Queensland Museum and a member of the Queensland Wikimedia community. Uploading a small sample of copyright free photographs from the museum's extensive collection onto Wiki Commons has been a slow process. This is not technically challenging, but ensuring that in-house policies and procedures are met requires considered thought.

I have written a blog over on MANEXUS which sheds some light on broader issues which the GLAM sector have to contend with in relation to the adoption of various forms of social media which may be of interest, particularly to the Wikimedia community.

What do people think about trying to organise a GLAM Wiki event in their own regions - starting with the UK?
And if this did happen - would/should we be asking different questions both of Wikimedia and the local GLAM sector?
And if these regional/local events happened, would you turn up and if so, what would you want out of the session?

In a Collections Care and Management class at IUPUI, our project this semester is to create condition reports on outdoor sculptures on IUPUI's campus on Wikipedia. I think the goal is to try out using Wikipedia as a database-of-sorts for providing information on public art in Indianapolis!

Pleasant surprises: The Montreal Museum of Fine Art is using updated Library of Congress notes, based upon a discovery I made during restoration. Currently looking for Canadian Wikimedians (preferably Quebecois) to contact the museum.

Gerard's blog post is a nice response to Angelina's questions and all round summing up of the points of connection. And the Netherlands / Indonesian exercise is really interesting.

Was too far away from Canberra to attend (am a good swimmer but not quite strong enough to dog paddle from San Diego), yet perhaps my latest blog post is a partial answer to her concerns. A lot of historic media gets neglected because physical restoration is not possible and digital restoration would not be feasible on a paid basis. This is an area where dedicated volunteers bring considerable benefits to cultural institutions within a wiki environment.
