Museum 3.0

what will the museum of the future be like?

JKoepfler posted a thoughtful response to the planning for social media workshop which Seb and I ran at Museums and the Web.

Some of the points she took away:

I've just posted my notes / thoughts on the session on the LibraryTechNZ blog. The main thing I've been thinking about and talking to colleagues about is what it means to really be online with our users: how does this fit with the 8.30-5.30 working day? how can we respond to users in their timeframes, not ours? and how do we collect, filter, share and act on all the things we can learn by listening to people talk about us online?

cheers, Courtney

Angelina - have you got that slide that you used to show that had the organisation strategy and then the type of social media to use to match it? I found that quite a useful way to frame organisational strategy when thinking about how to use social media tools in a planned way.

The most pertinent slide from my selection was blogged about over at Fresh & New in these posts from earlier this year. (Courtney spotted it! She gets a virtual Buzz Bar for doing so)

- Four circles of social media strategy

As far as organisational strategy goes, the most salient point is that social media requires engagement across the entire organisation - and this is the toughest thing about it.

I'll be blogging more shortly over at F&N.

A virtual Buzz Bar is hugely appreciated mid-afternoon before a long weekend!

The session was great, you know. It's one thing to read about this all on blogs and try to find time to process it. It's a totally different thing to be in a room full of people who aren't just processing it but bouncing it around. I just wish I could have smuggled a bunch of colleagues along in my suitcase, but we're chewing on all this right now ...

what I love about this thinking is that it flips the way we think about the web on its head. The web's not something the web team works on - it'ss an environment we live and work and work for people in ....
