Internship Opportunities? USA - August/September 2010

I am heading over to the US for a holiday in August 2010 and am hoping to tack on a bit of an internship while I am there! Last year I completed my MA at the University of Melbourne looking at public history and Web 2.0 in Australia and I am interested in pursuing an internship in museums and new media or even in digital strategy. Currently, I work full time as an historian/curator and have about 4 years experience in this area, including in project management.

If anyone knows of any opportunities or would be interested in organising one, please do get in touch!
Either through Museum 3.0 or megan_sheehy@live.com.au

Many thanks in anticipation!
Megan

My advice is to have a look through some museum blogs and try contacting them through the blog. That's how I got a volunteer position in the curatorial department of a major museum. It also gives you a good insider view as to what they are doing within the museum (and how comfortable they are with technology).

Hi Megan
Have a look at the Smithsonian's #si20 twitter feed. There are some pretty important people contributing to that. You will get a good sense of who is around from there. Then you can contact them directly.
Good luck!

A friend of mine did an internship at the Field Museum last summer. She loved it. The pay was decent (of course no Medical Insurance or anything like that). But she did have a great experience. You may try and call the museum ext.4396710. Hope this helps.
